The proposal for the comprehensive renovation of the Hotel Pois Pois focuses on transforming this emblematic building located in the heart of Taipei City. The objective is to update, revitalize, and redefine the property by preserving its historical value, enhancing its functionality, and giving it a new contemporary visual identity rooted in organic and geometric design principles.

Considering the existing characteristics of the site and its strong future potential, the goal of the developer, Kingland Property Corporation, was to create a unique residential landmark by converting the former hotel into a high-end residential building, offering distinctive and impactful architecture within the urban context.

Pois Pois, an Organic Evolution

The design approach begins with a comparative analysis of the hotel’s existing condition and the proposed architectural intervention. The intention is to preserve the original essence of Hotel Pois Pois—its classic character and its urban significance—while reinterpreting these qualities through a contemporary architectural language.

The key element of the proposal is the introduction of a honeycomb-inspired design that creates a modern, organic, and modular façade, providing visual identity, uniqueness, and formal coherence to the entire building.

Following the renovation, Hotel Pois Pois is organized into three main functional sectors.

The rooftop becomes a premium space conceived as a rooftop bar for leisure and events, taking advantage of panoramic views over Taipei and functioning as a social hub at the top of the building. The residential sector spans from the first floor up to the level immediately below the rooftop. It includes high-quality residential apartments designed to maximize comfort and views, featuring top-tier finishes. The commercial area, located on the ground floor, is intended for shops, cafés, or essential urban services, adding activity and appeal for both residents and visitors.

The renovation incorporates a renewed architectural image through:
• An exterior envelope made of stone-like prefabricated pieces supported by a metallic substructure.
• Organic honeycomb-type geometries that bring dynamism and modernity.
• A complete transformation of the interior spaces, now converted into high-end residential units.

The renovation of Hotel Pois Pois represents an organic evolution of a building with a strong urban identity. ON-A’s proposal succeeds in preserving the historic character of the property while introducing a contemporary aesthetic based on natural geometries, resulting in a refreshed and contextually coherent image.

At the same time, the intervention enhances the building’s functionality through a renewed distribution of uses, improving efficiency and adaptability to future demands.

Altogether, these actions elevate the value of the property for Kingland, giving it an emblematic and easily recognizable architectural presence. Ultimately, the building is positioned as an updated architectural landmark, fully prepared to meet the expectations of the current and future market.
