Sala Ciutat

The new Sala Ciutat of the City Council of Barcelona should be a new space that captures the attention of the public and offers flexibility of use; it should serve as an exhibition area and as a space for events.
The operation consists in creating a “gothic” interior adapted to the XXI century, creating a new geometry through its simplification and abstraction.
We use this concept to perforate the walls of the room, thus gathering a spatial relationship similar to that of Gothic spaces; verticality and fragmented coloured light, just like the light coming through the windows of a cathedral. This heterogeneity is in contrast with the lower free exhibition space to allow exposure.
