The proposal for the Café del Mar in Roses (Girona) came on the heels of the 5 Senses Lounge Bar in Empuriabrava. The idea behind this project was to generate a truly distinctive new architectural concept under the umbrella of a corporate brand.

Facade Solution
The project for the Café del Mar in Roses was part of a commitment to the expansion of a well-known chain from Ibiza in a new location: the Empordà. The programme is a bar-restaurant located on the seafront, where a series of stepped terraces offer views of the bay. The presence of water in the form of a pool generates an interstitial space that adds dynamism to users’ interactions with the different platforms. The geometry is characterized by concave forms that open broadly toward the bay, recalling the shape of the coves around Cap de Creus.

Volumetry
The volumes in the design sit between the seafront promenade and the bay, generating proximity to the sea that invites the creation of a long opening in the facade. This not only guarantees unbroken sightlines, but also constant interaction between users and the surroundings, as well as views of the sunset from one of the most beautiful spots in Catalonia.

Functional Programme
A terrace on the roof provides open views of the area and gives visitors the possibility to look out over the surrounding landscape from the premises. The programme was in response to the brief of a restaurant that could also operate as a nightclub and beach bar under a single envelope with various openings, extending across the facades and the roof, ultimately creating the feel of a compact volume.
